Have you heard about cancer killing DNA robots? The structure of these nanorobots was designed using a open-source software, called Cadnano. Then the robots were built using DNA Origami. The built robots were barrel-shaped devices, which had 12 sites on the inside for attaching payload molecules and had two positions on the outside for attaching aptamers which are short nucleotide strands with special sequences that will recognize molecules on the target cells. Six combinations of aptamer locks, each of them designed to target different types of cancer cells in the culture were tested. In that study the aptamers which were designed against a leukemia cell could pick the leukemia cell from a mixture of cell types and since the aptamers have found their target, they act as clasps releasing the payload eg. An antibody designed against the leukemia cells.
