Having a little more fun while flying the pattern solo. The first - TopicsExpress

Having a little more fun while flying the pattern solo. The first landing is practicing forward slips, shooting the approach high and fast. Literally flying the airplane sideways, a forward slip is a good way to reduce airspeed while descending at a greater rate. The last landing is practicing power-off approaches, simulating engine failure and gliding back to the airport. Both landings had about a 6-7 knot crosswind component from the north and required quite a bit of finesse on the rudders to keep pointed down the runway. Both very fun maneuvers to practice, but also very risky if proper airspeed isnt maintained.
