Having just come off the high of another successful Camp Quest - TopicsExpress

Having just come off the high of another successful Camp Quest Arizona session, its with the deepest regrets that I announce that one of the keystones of CQAZ, John Lynn, has resigned. Its difficult to express how instrumental John has been in getting CQAZ off the ground. His involvement can hardly be overstated. Nearly four years ago, my children were coming of an age where I wanted them to be able to have the scouting/summer camp experience that I so enjoyed as a child. As I fished about the internet looking for secular alternatives, John Lynn contacted me to tell me about Camp Quest - a secular summer camp with camps mostly back east. John had recently learned of Camp Quest and had made some preliminary contact with the organization to see what their expansion plans were out west. Their plans amounted to, Were looking for people who want to establish Camp Quests in new states. I honestly dont remember which of us first broached the question, “Should we try this?” but it hardly matters. It was John’s years of experience in the local secular community, his familiarity with setting up nonprofits and his contacts with people such as Holly Schineller, that brought together the core team we needed to launch CQAZ. Acting as our first Camp Director, John showed his patience, planning skills, thoroughness but, most importantly, his great, good-natured way of interacting and engaging with campers and staff alike. From the outset, he said he would participate for “a few years” and then move on, and now that the time has come, we are greatly diminished by his departure. As we look to rebuild/expand our Board of Directors and senior camp staff, we will do so standing on a foundation made strong by the love and dedication of John Lynn. John, we all wish you the very best and say, “thank you!” for all that you’ve done to bring Camp Quest to Arizona!
