Haz has been very quiet on Facebook for the last 10 days. There is a load of stuff Ive got to post about the end of the walk for console suicide prevention and counselling services uk and Ireland and many people to thank, but for now thats put on hold. On the 24th of October last year while walking towards Newcastle City a man pulled up in his jammer ( car ) as I came out of a shop scranning ( eating ) a hot dog. Hi hazard, Im Bob Hill . As I was passing up the road I noticed a fella going into the shop that I thought was you so I decided to double back and invite you over for dinner with my wife Christine Hill and I. Haz is there thinking jeasus if hed only spotted me a few seconds earlier I wouldnt have wasted any reddies ( money ) on this hot dog junk but at the same time delighted with the hospitality and friendly offer and automatically accept. Yes certainly Bob, thanks very much. We get to the house and all three of us have some scran and a great chat about the hazwalk and all that goes with it. After about an hour or so Haz heads off. Ever since that encounter both Bob and Christine had become great supporters of console, making donations, buying haz bands, Christine buying the bottle of whiskey that was auctioned on line for Bobs birthday which I was looking forward to presenting to him last Sunday at the Happy Cats gig in the Centurion bar Newcastle. Bob was constantly making people aware of the work of console. I know this because of people that have found out about Console through him that would have contacted me. On the 24th of June , the last day of the hazwalk while we were down in Penzance having a few beers with John Delaney, Pauline Delaney, Maria Singleton, Malcolm Meagor and Sara Delaney little did we know that Bob had passed away very suddenly. It wasnt till the following morning haz got a message from Bobs niece to tell us the very shocking and sad news. Christ above, it was numbing to say the least. This fine gentleman, how could this be this be real? Sure jeasus when I was in his company he was full of life, looking forward to his retirement do. I just dont get it! Haz spoke with Christine on the phone on Friday, not really knowing what to say but just trying to make some sense of it. Anyway, we did have a chat and of course Christine being the selfless person that she is said to me about the Bottle of whisky. Haz, Im never going to drink it and I know that Bob would have wanted it to be auctioned again so could you please do that on Sunday. We certainly will Christine, and thanks very much. The bottle was auctioned and raised another £200 for Console. Nice one Mr Rob Oliver. Thanks sham. Sunday was a mighty day but there was a massive void in the air too. I know that every single person at the Centurion felt it. Sadly it wasnt just Bob that was not there with us as we also lost another hazwalk member a few weeks before hand. Kunal Basak R.I.P. ,who I stayed with the night before Bob and Christine passed away suddenly as well. Two mighty fine men. As I write this, Bobs funeral is taking place. I just couldnt make it but my thoughts are with Christine , her and Bobs family and their massive circle of friends. R.I.P Bob Hill . Farewell, Slán .
