"He who fights with monsters might take care lest he thereby become a monster. And if you gaze for long into an abyss, the abyss gazes also into you. " Nietzsche I am reminded of the moment in a movie theater when I experienced a crowd of people watching a film with a scene of people trapped in a movie theater watching a film while the theater is on fire. I was amazed when the crowd cheered. There we were. In a possibly locked theater. Watching our own possible fates. But instead of fear the masses were delighted in unison. Because among the people trapped was Adolph Hitler. So somehow it was alright, and even joyful to most. You watch the way men wrap themselves in the red white and blue. The things that self proclaimed Christian men say they would do to a corpse of Osama or Saddam. I enjoyed Inglorious Basterds - even when I was surprised by the reaction of the crowd. I think Tarantino deserves a nod for being able to do what he did. I am sure he was completely aware of the juxtaposition it would create. Not unlike many scenes in Django. Is torture always wrong? Who would Jesus torture?
