Heads of many of the worlds Orthodox churches celebrated the 1700th anniversary of the Edict of Milan, in Nis, Serbia this week. The edict was an agreement by the Roman empires rulers, led by St Constantine, to cease the persecution of Christians (also granting religious freedom to all citizens) and paved the way for the recognition of Christianity (eventually) as the official religion of the Roman empire.
