Heads-up Folks (via ORAFS) Rhodesia National Parks. 1928 - 1990 Mike Bromwich has informed ORAFs of an exciting new publication set to be released later this year on the National Parks and Wildlife Management of Rhodesia and Zimbabwe. Here is a little more on the book: NATIONAL PARKS AND WILDLIFE MANAGEMENT RHODESIA AND ZIMBABWE 1928 - 1990 Is a unique historic and anecdotal account of the finest wildlife conservation agency the continent and very possibly the world has ever seen. In this regard it ranks with the likes of our fighting units - the RLI, SAS, RAR,, Selous Scouts and last, and by no means least, the Rhodesian Airforce acclaimed by military pundits in Britain and elsewhere to be in a league of its own. As you will recall the Department had a very close relationship with the Airforce - rescue missions being flown at various times across the country - The midnight helicopter casevac of Tony Ferrar critically injured by an elephant at Buffalo Bend in the Gonarezhou - Norman Walsh flying with Peter Petter-Bower navigating; - Willie de Beer severely mauled by a lioness uplifted from Shapi Culling Camp in Wankie in the most appalling weather; - Ferrying trout fingerlings as part and parcel of flight training from the Inyanga Hatchery to the Bundi River in the Chimanimanis, -........the list goes on... The book is currently with the printers in Hong Kong and should be available for international and South African distribution from Hilton in KwaZulu Natal in October. Zimbabwe - I will be bringing books into the country with my intention being to do so in the least expensive manner - duty as opposed to postage and understand that this will not negatively impact on the price of US$75. Local distribution it is hoped will be mid/late November. It is a large book (A4) 640 pages comprising 700+photos and 600 pages of text excluding the appendices and, has taken, six years of research and work to produce. At the moment I am only taking orders for this limited numbered edition of 1500; payment will be requested closer to distribution when I will email everyone and advise costs (see attachment) together with my bank details. Attached - a photo of the front cover together with the accompanying note which details costs etc and the foreword by Dr Colin Saunders ex Chairman of the Rhodesian/Zimbabwean National Parks Board.
