Heads up to anyone who wakes up w/"turtle neck" syndrome! There - TopicsExpress

Heads up to anyone who wakes up w/"turtle neck" syndrome! There is a rare "event" that can happen called "torticollis exacerbation" and it happened to ME last sun evening!! It rendered me totally unable to care for myself for over 10 hrs! Mark had to call the squad to come and take me to Mt Carmel, with me in uncontrollable agonizing pain. I had run the sweeper for 1 1/2 hrs, had irritated my neck muscles, creating swelling ( unbeknownst to me) pinching the nerves in my neck, I laid down and within 20 seconds the pain hit me ...the worst I had ever experienced EVER!!! They gave me 1mg hydromorphone, 8mg morphine in the squad, didn`t touch the pain, 8 more in the ER along w/other strong meds, still didn`t touch the pain, until the 3rd dose.... I thot I was having either an aneurysm, stroke( but there`s no pain w/stroke) or meningitis. It finally released its grip with strong muscle relaxers, and anti-spasm meds w/hydromorphone. This is a syndrome that happens when I was bent over sweeping for so long, the fluid builds up in the brain/skull, and the neck muscles swell w/irritation, putting pressure on the nerves (creating pain) and spinal chord, that when I laid down, it was like a kinked hose at the turtleneck site and the fluids couldn`t pass thru to the torso, creating agonizing pain, the brain goes on hi alert and freiks out that something is wrong. It took away my speech and all muscle coordination!! It was horrible.... so if anyone has turtleneck, do not run the sweeper or bend over alot!!!
