|| Heal the World || By: Ibn Al Haitham Heal the world we live in, save it for our children When Michael Jackson envisioned, wrote and sang this song back in 1991, who would have thought that within the span of merely 23 years, wed witness the very sanctity of the songs purpose molested and its premise denigrated. The greatest travisty of our time is living in a world where death and destruction has desensitized our consciences to a point that they have become an almost intrinsic part of existence. It is what we know; what we see, what we accept. A big dungeon of a never ending abyss. Sinking deeper. Free, yet enslaved. There, yet, never really there. A psychedelic life of information; twisted, manipulated, brandished and served to suit all pallets. Imprisonment within our homes. Inside our minds. Fetters and chains upon the intellect. There was a time when the unjust demise of a single child would shake communities, awaken local municipalities, empower men to exercise freedom of thought and rise against bigotry via social activism that made marks on the pages of history. A history not too long ago. Gandhi, Florence Nightingale, Martin Luther King, Malcolm X; just to name a few. People who changed the face of the world in general, and their specific generations in particular, merely by a single thought. You see, everything great that has ever happened to humanity, has begun as a single thought in someones mind. And the way to cure the world of its nauseating sickness, salvage it from its self-destructive terminal disease and gradual pitiful decay, is by recognizing that healing it necessitates a future. That future is its children. Not the ones from an unknown tribe in the rural greenlands of Mozambique. Not the ones at the school sportsday with their parents in New Jersey. Not the ones deprived of clean water and education in North Waziristan. Not the ones coming home with a bag full of candy from a night of Halloween Trick and Treating in East London. Nor the ones being blown apart and smashed to smithereens in the streets of Gaza. But everyone. Every child. Privileged or not. Accepted or not. Loved or not. Everyone. Every child. A villainous bullet that pierces mercilessly through the feeble frame of a child and becomes the reason for blood to spill onto the skin, is a bullet whos metal, trigger, perpetrator, governing political force and political doctrines therein - become an enemy to us. That very notion is what we owe to the departed soul, as it leaves the childs body, gazing beneath at its motionless self, strewn about like chewed flesh, wondering what it did to deserve such bestial cruelty, as it ascends up to its Maker. Heal the world. It begins now. Today. This heartbeat. With us. For them. The children. For the future belongs to them.
