Hearings? What do hearings amount to? Doesn’t corporate America pretty well buy any legislation it wants? Up until a recent hour, it has been useless to take them on. They will have their way. Im still adding 8 more panels in May. If they raise the rate to the point where it becomes necessary, those of us enjoying the savings that come with having solar panels will be forced to buy expensive batteries and go off the grid altogether. However --- if too many Mainers had off-grid panels on their homes and barns, you would very soon see a very heavy tax placed upon sunlight. What? You don’t think you could be taxed for collecting and using sunlight? Even I will probably live to see it. But up to now, with only a few of us saving money with solar panels, its not worth their while to pass laws that would tax them --- yet. For quite some time now youve been hearing that ALEC has been working to stick it to those of us who are saving with solar. And, from what you’ve been seeing, what ALEC wants, ALEC gets. If you had ALEC’s money, you could buy legislation, too.
