Heat Online has closed servers on May 1st 2014. Still many asks why its over and to restart. Since forums are closed by now here on FB comes the answer. HO (Level-R, PT, etc. whatever it is called) never returned the investment. In addition after Cleo no update managed to stop falling player trends instead introduced more loss. Development has only been sustainable because first Gamepot, then Aeria, then again Gamepot sponsored it. Different sponsors wanted different styles and that hurt existing players feelings. Games code also become a swamp as a result of rushed development. Code change kept costing multiple times more than it should be and refactoring would cost a fortune so development stopped. When monthly revenues get closed to the server costs servers were shut down. First an external dev group planned to restart Cleo but they proved to be unreliable. Later many wished for getting sources, but their quotes are far from $100,000 we set as a minimal price for non-exclusive access. Even though the code is a mess it still incorporates a great deal of knowledge, and this price covers art assets too. To anyone who would like to buy it: Please dont! You would just waste money. You would need pro programmers to do the refactoring costing $100,000s. Instead get a decent game engine, available for low costs and develop something similar from scratch for a lot less. This is an honest but unarguable sad post. Feel free to express your feelings but please keep it polite. Thanks!
