Heather wrote--One year ago today, my very brave husband John made one of the hardest decisions in his life to have his left leg amputated below the knee to not only save his life but to also get his life back after being laid up for 5 months and having multiple surgeries during those months to try to save his foot. Its amazing what a difference a year makes. Not only is he walking again, he is doing everything he did in the past including his favorite hobby golfing. While its been an adjustment and things will continue to change with his leg, even minor setbacks dont get him down. His attitude is so amazing that when people talk to him they call him an inspiration. He is certainly an inspiration to me and is my hero. He has already been a mentor to others facing similar situations and has helped them through it by giving advice, encouragement and support. We both look at life so differently now, in a positive way! We take nothing for granted and enjoy life in a whole new way. Most importantly we realize how strong we are, both individually and as a couple and thats something I wouldnt change for the world. We could not have gotten through this past year without all the support and love from family and friends. You all know who you are and we appreciate all that was done to support us through this life changing experience. We feel very blessed and want to thank everyone for their words of encouragement, support and love that was shown to John and I over this past year and thank you for all the continued support we receive.
