Helichrysum bracteatum (or rather Xerochrysum bracteatum ) is a flowering plant in the family Asteraceae native to Australia. The species is growing in a variety of habitats across the country, from rainforests to deserts and subalpine areas. In Australia, many cultivars are perennial shrubs, which have become popular garden plants because their flowers attract butterflies to the garden. Helichrysum bracteatum is easy to grow both from seeds and from cuttings, although cultivars will only grow from cuttings. Plants grow best in acid, well-aerated, soils. They are sensitive to iron deficiency, which presents as yellowing of the youngest leaves (chlorosis). H. bracteatum can be grown in large pots or window boxes. Lower growing cultivars are also suitable for hanging baskets and border plantings. More robust forms and those with longer stems are used for commercial cut flowers. The main factor limiting lifespan of dried flowers is the wilting of stems, so flowers are sometimes wired into arrangements. Immersing flowers in glycerol or polyethylene glycol also prolongs lifespan. goo.gl/D8LPd0 #helichrysum #xerochrysum #flowers #plants, #garden #kvety #rastiny #zahrada #zahradkar
