Hello Everyone: Plastimarx was the subsidiary of Marx toy Company - TopicsExpress

Hello Everyone: Plastimarx was the subsidiary of Marx toy Company in the U.S. However Plastimarx was located in Mexico. Using dies and molds loaned to them by their parent company, they produced a number of play sets, cars and trains; however most of the trains they made were battery operated or wind up trains. When Louis Hafner sold his toy train company to Marx, many of the dies for those trains also ended up in Mexico. Plastimarx was still making trains long after Marx had closed up shop in the U.S. Because many of these trains were battery operated and made cheaply. Very few have survived and to my knowlege no Plastimarx items were ever imported. So imagine my surprise when a visit to a local Mexican thrift store here in Santa Ana turned up THREE very nice Plastimarx train sets plus a very nice tinplate wind up train and all for 20.00 cash and carry. First up is the EXPRESO NOCTURNO complete with a very battered box. The locomotive runs but could benefit from a good cleaning Notice all of the cars except the tender and caboose are unmarked. The second set is the rarest of them. Made in 1981, it contains multi colored track and each section is 16 inches long.r is also a rarity. Lettered Santa Fe Mexico. Santa Fe railroad had interchanges at the border but never went into Mexico itself. Also you can see both the instruction sheet and guarantee are printed in spanish. And last we have the wind up EL TREN DE LA ALEGRA which needs a bit of work so I have my work cut out for me this morning. Maybe I will play some of that ranchera music on the radio while I fix these.
