Hello Friends! I got an e-mail form another SGA candidate and unfortunately schedules did not line up for him to come and speak to our group. So he wanted to me to post a letter he wrote to us in regards to his running and his support for our group. His name is Stephen Kucera and he is running for Student Senator and College Councilperson in the College of Arts & Sciences. Here is his letter: LGBT and Allies, I am a Sophomore double majoring in Music Performance (Organ) and Accounting. In addition, I am minoring in Leadership Studies and participating in the Honor’s Program. I am running in the Student Governing Association General Election for the offices of Student Senator and College Councilperson in the College of Arts & Sciences. The election will take place from Tuesday at noon until Wednesday at 6 PM at: sgaelections.ksu.edu./ In my Leadership Culture and Context class, we have discussed how society often tries to classify people based on what the majority in society perceived to be different. Many times in my life, I have also faced this narrow-minded viewpoint. I think that society would be so very much better if we accept each person for who they are, respect each other, and allow people to love each other without fear of prejudice, bullying, or discrimination. I see this as a defining topic that our generation must take leadership. A couple weeks ago, as a member of the Student Senate General Body, I voted for legislation that changed the review of the LGBT Resource Center from 1 to 3 years and moved it to a more stable funding position. I am running for Student Senate with my good friend Joe Oaks. Joe and I served as Student Government Interns and currently serve as Senators from Arts & Sciences. I hope that if you are in Arts & Sciences (includes Open Option) will vote for us; and if you are from a different college, I hope you will support our Facebook page (Stephen Kucera and Joe Oaks for Student Senate) and encourage your friends to vote for us.
