Hello Friends! Most of you are aware that Phillip has experienced multiple health problems over the last 2 years, including multiple myeloma, stage 3 kidney failure and Parkinsons disease. Approximately two months ago on a Sunday morning, Phil started vomiting blood. I took him to the ER, where it was determined he had a bleeding gastric ulcer. They kept him a few days, transfused him and sent him home with a HGB of 9.1, asking him to follow up with his gastroenterologist in 6 weeks. His EGD revealed a smooth mushroom shaped pollop, high in the stomach, which on biopsy revealed adeno carcinoma. We have visited with his oncologist, and a recommended radiation oncologist, and have been referred to an oncological surgeon, for which we are waiting appointment time. The curative treatment includes chemotherapy before and after surgical resection of the affected area, and a course of radiation. Phillip would not be a candidate for chemotherapy due to his kidney disease. Radiation could be a palliative treatment for symptoms, such a bleeding, should that occur again. Although it would be doubtful Phillip could withstand a surgical procedure given his many issues including heart disease, we are exploring what might be available along that avenue. With his weekly Procrit injection, Phils HGB has climbed to 11 or thereabouts; wed like to see it progress to 12. His energy level is very low, and he experiences much muscle weakness. It is important for you to know that we are OKAY. Our faith is stronger than ever. We have had the conversations about the tough stuff. We have advance directives, and we did our will and trusts about 3 years ago. We know that we can call on any or all of you at any time. Thank you for loving us, and caring about us.
