Hello Friends! So glad you are enjoying my new text DEATH OF A KING. Just thought I would share an example of the mail Ive received over the past couple of weeks. Mr. Smiley: Just finished your book about Dr. King which I ordered for Kindle right after seeing you with Jon Stewart. Your interview with Mr. Stewart was very good and as a result I knew I had to read the book. My concluding thoughts are that whatever it is I thought about Dr. King before the book, basically a mixture of admiration and skepticism from a white mans perspective, I surely do now admire Dr. King and realize more than ever what a tragedy his assassination was. I am 65 years old now and I think I understand how the world works pretty well, yet I see that Dr. King had so many excellent ideas for a man half my age. I think he must have been a true genius. Let me add that I used to think that the effort years ago to make his birthday a national holiday was unnecessary and somewhat demeaning to the nations founding fathers. After reading your book I no longer think that and I believe now that Dr. King really is in the same league after all with Washington, Jefferson, Franklin, Adams, and the rest. I would not hesitate to make that point with anyone who challenges me on it. So thank you for writing this book with your colleague Mr. Ritz and enhancing my image of Dr. King. I hope these many years after his death that, if he could, he would feel we have all made some progress in the areas that he cared about. If so, he certainly deserves a large portion of the credit.
