Hello, Here are some PTSD Service Dog Facts,,,,, real and perceived First off, I have never charged anyone for helping them train their dogs, because I am not a dog trainer. I also recognize the fact that some of our veterans have seen some horrific things that cannot just vanish as if it never happened. What sickens me the most is some of these so-called PTSD Dogs that are being placed with uninformed Veterans into an uninformed society, funded by uninformed donations and being sanctioned by an uninformed media. When I along with many others talk about Task-related Training, most people have no idea on what that means. If my dog makes me feel all warm and fuzzy, isnt that task related? believe it or not, the answer is no.... That is called an Emotional Support Dog and/or a Therapy Dog and that does not qualified for Service Dog status. And your type, degree or level of degree of disability has absolutely nothing to do with the qualifications of the dog. So I will talk a little about the role of a PTSD Trained Service Dog, and what is meant by task trained. Some people think that just because his/her dog helps them feel better, and helps that person deal with their PTSD, is all that matters. Studies have shown that Gold Fish have help people relax, and yet we dont see people carrying around little bowls of fish around with them. The role of a Task Trained PTSD Dog is to recognize and intervene in situations that threatens the handlers well-being. Such as intervening in moments of anger, distress, suicidal tendencies and even depression facial recognition. Now some people of are the belief that if they have a good enough Emotional or Therapy Dog, they may be OK. however I can tell you in the real world that is simply not the case. And anyone that endorses and promotes this belief is either perpetuating the fraud or enabling it. The Emotional/Therapy Dog theory is a very short term solution to a very complex long-term infliction, and that is why PTSD is a very real disability and is called a disorder. As the warm and fuzzy feelings will start to wear thin and begins to be less and less effective, then what happens? I will help you answer that. What happens is because these veterans are of the impression that this dog is a service dog and even it isnt working for them, they get to the point of no return. That is the point of absolutely nothing will work for for them and whats the use state of mind or the scared to live and afraid to die state of mind. And it is at that point where a Trained PTSD Service Dog will show its true purpose, and do what ever it takes to get that person out of that state of mind. My Service Dog Annie will do and has done whatever it takes to get me back to reality. She has licked my face and hands, nibbled on my ears and she is trained to intervened on the same escalation of the episode. My Service Dog has done minor things like lick my hands or escalate to the point of sticking her tongue in my mouth. She is Task Trained to intervene in situation that is related PTSD and that is what makes a Service Dog. And it is for these reasons that people at all levels of society must learn the functions of a Task Trained Service Dog, and the difference between these highly trained companions and a dog wearing a vest.... Because if all I need is a $60 Service Dog Vest or a Fake Certification to rid me of my disability, can someone please tell me where I can find this miracle you talk about?
