Hello! I’m starting a charity organisation that aims to entertain sick children in the Westmead and Randwick children’s hospitals. The charity is call “CosPlay for Kids.” I’m assembling an acting troupe of young actors to visit children’s hospitals throughout 2014. The ultimate goal is to entertain the WORLD! But for now I’m starting with sick children in Sydney. The idea of cosplay is dressing up as characters from popular culture and having fun (the possibilities are endless.) As a starting point I want to create an acting troupe of young actors to visit children’s hospitals as Hogwarts Students from J.K. Rowling’s Harry Potter. There is already entertainment in place a Westmead and Randwick children’s hospitals mostly digital like TV and video games. What I am proposing is something more than just entertainment. I am proposing entertainment that stimulates the left side of the brain through simple games and verbal interactions between the actors and the children. Some activities could include: - Handing out Bertie Botts every flavoured beans. - Reading chapters from the Harry Potter books in the Starlight Foundation Room. - Standing by the electric doors where people enter and reciting “Alohomara!” - Placing the sorting hat on the kids heads and sorting them into Hogwarts houses by having light-hearted conversations about their likes and dislikes. At the moment I’m reaching out to young people who have a history in the dramatic arts. I’m interested in your suggestions and contributions. If you know of any actors add them to the group.
