Hello. Mr. Peabody, here, and my boy, Sherman. Tonight were taking the Way-Back Machine to the summer of 1967 to Monterey, CA, to the first ever Monterey Pop Festival. Monterey had been hosting jazz festivals for several years but then some LA area musicians and music producers, led by John Phillips, organized a festival for the burgeoning number of rock and pop music recording artists in the latter part of the 60s. Tonight we will see some of the earliest performances by The Association, Simon & Garfunkel, Country Joe & The Fish, Al Kooper, The Butterfield Blues Band, Quicksilver Messenger Service, The Electric Flag, The Byrds, Laura Nyro, Jefferson Airplane, The Blues Project, Big Brother & The Holding Co w/some singer named Janis, The Buffalo Springfield, The Who, The Mamas & The Papas, and some dude named Scott McKenzie. youtu.be/OiQN3pQ6EwM
