Hello Wolf Pack, We did not have an update in a while. Overall, Gabriel is doing well. He is adjusting nicely to life at home which is so nice to see. He sees a nurses daily and still fighting some chemo side effects (nausea and vomiting is still a big issue with him and can last six months and even more). Today, Gabriel was admitted to day hospital for checkup and treatment. Gabriel is now 3 months post his transplant and the good news is that it looks like he engrafted very well as his white blood cells count is good. At this point his docs are managing all the damage the chemo and radiation left behind (they call is Chemo Injuries). As a result, Gabriel is having appointments now with: 1. Nephrology to manage his problematic kidneys. 2. Chest CT to follow-up on his lung infection. 3. Appointment and test with ophthalmology (eye doctors) to followup on his eye nerves. 4. A post transplant neuro-psychological evaluation. 5. Another issue that they follow-up on with hematology is blood coagulation factors which Gabriel has some issues with. On the positive, Gabriel is getting stronger. While he is not eating anything by mouth, we feed him a lot through his tube. As a result, he is also gaining weight. The dietitian and his docs are changing his nutrition almost every week to give him more calories but also so he can have a kidney-friendly diet. Gabriel is also becoming more confident on his feet. Walking more confidently and longer distances. He still has a long way to go (ha ha) but his in the right direction. Also, since he arrived home, his speech improved significantly. We continue to work with Gabriel with help of a physiotherapist, occupational therapist and speech therapist and we must say this little man is one resilient kid and always amazes us with his ability to rebound! Thanks again to all the wonderful support!!!
