Hello all, i have had an email from change.org regards an update - TopicsExpress

Hello all, i have had an email from change.org regards an update on Daniels law, i will paste the response below, it clearly shows the disregard our Government have towards the vulnerable in society. Michael - Thank you to everyone who has so far signed for Daniels Law. We’ve come a long way - our petition now stands at over 64,000. I wanted to update you as there has been some progress on our campaign. I recently received a response to our petition from Michael Gove, Minister for Education. In it, he makes two key points: 1. That current statutory guidance is crystal clear. We know this is not true for numerous reasons; not only is current guidance 74 pages long but, as Geoffrey Robinson MP explained to Parliament last week, statutory guidance is in itself an oxymoron - it can be either statutory or it can be guidance, it cannot be both. 2. That Mandatory Reporting does not work. Where Mandatory Reporting might not always be effective, the law extends to the general public as well as to staff who are paid to work with children. However, where it applies only to Regulated Activities (which is what Daniels Law is calling for), it has been working effectively for years in many countries, including Northern Ireland since 2005. It is simply not credible for government to continue to assert that Mandatory Reporting would not have helped Daniel Pelka and that it would not help other vulnerable children. Our steadily increasing numbers should make us impossible to ignore and I will continue to petition Michael Gove for national debate. The Coventry Observer also ran a front page story on the petition and is now officially supporting our campaign, calling on it’s readers to get us to 100,000 signatures! We’re so close already! Please keep spreading the word to gain new supporters. The more signatures we have, the more influence we can bring to bear on government for Daniels Law. Thank you for your support, Paula PS.
