Hello everyone- I want to call some attention to an event happening this Sunday. Many of you know about last years Tribute Challenge honoring SSG David Dunlap, and his wife Whitney Butler, but Ill offer some explanation for the new folks- SSG Dunlap was a close friend of Darrin Ingram. When Darren was deployed flying Apache Attack Helicopters, David ran his ground crew. Based on a conversation they had, David registered for GORUCK class 493 on 4/6/13 in COS. By all accounts David was excited to get some good livin, and join our Rocky Mountain GORUCK family, but things took a tragic turn when upon returning to their home on January 17th they surprised a burglar, who then shot and killed David, Whitney, and their unborn child. Darren passed the word on to a few members of the GORUCK community that he intended to fly in, and earn Davids patch in his place. Inspired, the Global GRT community, and RMGRT rallied to create something special out of the 4/6 GORUCK challenge. Funds were raised to purchase a missing man GR2, which we loaded with 6 bricks, and outfitted for a challenge. The team would carry it for David. Another RMGRT Bryan Shane created a log hewn bench from fallen timber to serve as a monument. The bench weight was significant, but it was carried from the start point at Red Rocks open space all the way to, and then up the Manitou Incline in an ultimate demonstration of teamwork, and tribute to a fallen family. There are not many moments I can recall that filled my heart as much as the reception we received from the public at the top of that climb... Sunday is the first anniversary of that event, and it is my intention to celebrate it on the Incline with as many RMGRTs as we can mass. The team intends to depart from Red Rocks open space near Manitou Springs at 9am on 4/6 It doesnt matter to me if you were on Class 493 or not, or even if you are a GRT. Please join together and lets honor David and Whitney one more time.
