Hello everyone. First, let me say that JoAnne from Rubbing Elbows - TopicsExpress

Hello everyone. First, let me say that JoAnne from Rubbing Elbows is amazing. She knows her stuff and has a huge heart. She has donated her time, skills and gasoline to work on Toby numerous times. And he has improved greatly with her care. However, recently, his hind end seems to be significantly bothering him again. It is definitely not a hoof issue. His front feet are squarely under him. We can lift each of his feet and he bears the weight on the others without complaint. And when Donn trims him, Toby no longer needs to lean on me for support. However, he seems to be walking with more of an exaggerated hind end gait again – and is losing weight, which we think may be due to pain. I found an equine vet who also does acupuncture. I sent her a recent video of Toby walking and asked her advice, and below is her reply. The treatment is not cheap, especially since he will most likely need several sessions. Over the next few weeks, I will be posting Ebay auctions in an effort to raise the money. Please check out my items and share the auctions (which will mostly be collectibles). I would like to get Toby treated as soon as possible. Thank you so much. Please continue to keep Toby in your thoughts and prayers. Dear Christine, Thank you for your interest in acupuncture! Acupuncture can be very helpful in managing horses like Toby. Horses with chronic laminitis often develop secondary compensatory neuromuscular issues. Acupuncture sessions typically last 1-1.5 hours (occasionally, up to 2 hours) and includes assessment, treatment and use of electro stimulation unit, if indicated. The cost is $125. If aquapuncture is indicated, there is additional charge of $1/per cc with Vit B12 and sarapin being most frequently used injectables. Acupuncture in conjunction with chiropractic care has a synergistic effect and often produces the best results. Chiropractic adjustment alone is $100 but if done in conjunction with acupuncture, is discounted to $75. The cost of farm call is determined by mileage from our office in Bangor. Your location would likely be zone 2 or 3 ($70 or $80). Thanks again for your interest in and consideration of our acupuncture services for Toby. Kind regards, Dr. Meg Pittenger, DVM, CVA, CVMMP
