Hello everyone~ It’s already September guys! For those of you living in Australia, say Hellooo to spring ;) Today we’d like to share a story of North Korean refugee woman who never gave up her hope on finding true freedom outside of North Korea. Following the collapse of the Soviet Union, the North Korean economy crashed completely, leaving North Korean civilians into a severe poverty that lasted for years. During this time, approximately one million people died from starvation, while many of those who survived barely managed to sustain their lives. And Yoon Suk was one of them. Deeming that China was the only place where she could survive, she fled to China with the risk of severe punishment if she ever got caught. Once she arrived in China, alone in a foreign country where she didn’t speak the language, Yoon Suk was sold to a Chinese man as his bride. Even though she was living with a Chinese man, Yoon Suk was still under the North Korean surveillance. Not even a month after arriving Yoon Suk was caught by a Chinese police officer and was forcibly repatriated back to North Korean prison camp, where she was physically, mentally and morally abused and exploited. After all she had gone through, Yoon Suk was still undeterred from finding freedom outside of North Korea. After being sold off three times by Chinese traffickers, Yoon Suk and her daughter safely escaped China together through Liberty in North Korea’s network. Now Yoon Suk and her daughter are on their way to safety and freedom in South Korea. Yoon Suk anticipates for the future full of new opportunities that lie ahead of her. Hope this article provided you with the realistic perspectives of the lives of North Korean refugees. Remember, Yoon Suk was one of the few luckiest refugees who survived through the escape. Lets continue to keep them in our prayer :) Cheers xx For more detailed account of her story, please visit the following link: buzzfeed/libertyinnorthkorea/finding-freedom-one-womans-escape-from-north-kor-xona
