Hello everyone! My name is Anna Lin and I am working for the New York City Asian American Student Conference (NYCAASC). I would like to humbly invite your organization to our 8th annual conference: Roots. This year’s conference, which is designed to demonstrate how our roots anchor us and nourish our future progress, will be held on Saturday, April 26th at the New York University Kimmel Center (60 Washington Square South). Planned by students from various universities in the NYC area – including New York University, Columbia University/Barnard College, CUNY, SUNY, and Fordham University – the conference consists of a broad range of engaging workshops and panels intended to encourage attendees to think critically about Asian American issues. Registration is entirely free, breakfast and lunch will be provided, and there will be a talent show highlighting up-and-coming Asian American performers, from an Asian American punk-hip hop duo to a nationally ranked beatboxer. Our keynote speaker this year is Gary Okihiro, a distinguished professor of international and public affairs at Columbia University and a past president of the Association for Asian American Studies. He has authored ten books and is the recipient of the Lifetime Achievement Award from the American Studies Association and the Association for Asian American Studies.
