Hello everyone! Please do not judge this painting TOO harshly. This is my first attempt at oil painting (I was doing acrylic, and switched to follow my great grandfather Carolus Verhaerens footsteps). I did this alla prima, and would like to continue to use that technique as I am a fan of the blending and mixing that it allows. I do have a question for anyone who may know that would really help me out! I am so unhappy with this attempt, as by the time I got to the trees, or even the clouds for that matter, my brush just kept picking up the color underneath, thus my paint would not stick! I had planned to do so much more detail in the foliage but could not get my highlights to stick properly. I use Liquid White to prime the canvas, and Im wondering if I used too much to start? Any good rule of thumb for applying this to a decent amount? Ive watched so much Bob Ross and am attempting to follow his style, and it just looks like he has such an easy time laying these things on the canvas! I was so frustrated when it wasnt working as planned. I did notice that even my sky ended up over blending, which is why I am suspiciously attributing it to too much liquid white? Thank you all so much, and I apologize for the book I just wrote!
