Hello everyone. This is Alice from BBC Xtra English. It’s great to speak to you. Today we’re talking about a woman in America who saw the sea for the first time in her life – aged 100! Ruby Holt, now aged 101 grew up in Tennessee, a landlocked state in the USA. She worked on a cotton farm and brought up her family. She had always wanted to see the sea but never had the chance. A charity called “Wish of a Lifetime” helped Ruby make the trip to the Gulf of Mexico to dip her feet in the sea. Her wish of a lifetime was granted – this means her wish was made possible. If you live to the age of 100 which wish would you like to be granted? What is your wish of a lifetime? And my English question today: What is landlocked? 1. A country or place that is surrounded by sea 2. A country or place that isn’t surrounded by sea 3. A place or country with lots of land that is difficult to travel through
