Hello members of manyminds (HK)! I am Winsome, a Research Assistant for Dr. Maria Tam of the Department of Anthropology, Chinese University of Hong Kong. We are going to hold a series of workshop on Nepali culture starting in Sep to May 2015 in order to raise the awareness of ethnic minorities culture in Hong Kong . We are currently recruiting participants for the workshop, Nepali in particular. This workshop focuses on three main areas: Social Marginalization, Discrimination and Empowerment. At the beginning, we are going to look at the situation Nepali is facing in Hong Kong at the moment from Employment, Education, Health, Religion and Family, which provide basic knowledge to the Chinese participants on the situation in the Nepali community. Later on, we are trying to introduce the concept of social enterprise to the participants. Because we believe and we know that a lot of minorities in HK is super talented, just the government does not see. We hope that through learning about social enterprise, the participants may come up with some self-sustainable projects that could empower the minorities on their own. On top of that, is a fruitful cultural exchange and learning experience for both culture participants. As part of the program is looking for pairing up a minority with one or two of the Hong Kong Chinese participants to work on a joint culture small project in order to enhance the cultural exchange between the two groups, the age of our targeted participants from the minorities sector would be those about to graduate from secondary school, to the early 20-s. Or as long as someone who wants to make a difference for their community. Yet, the only requirement is that they have to be bilingual, i.e. able to communicate in either Cantonese or English on top of Nepali. Currently, we are looking for 10 to 15 Nepali youth to join us.
