Hello my friends and family here on Facebook... Can you believe I can access this from work??? In an unprecidented move made by my company to help our customers maintain and obtain this important service I provide, we are getting the word out that CaptionCall headsets should stay FREE. The FCC is make one ruling after another that affects companies like ours in exponential waves. Please take the time to read and fill out the petition. It affects my job and it could affect all TTY services. apps.fcc.gov/ecfs/upload/display?z=u1mhb Here is what is going on... in a nutshell. 1) The FCC would like to charge our customers $75 to purchase the phone a. Currently, we provide the phone to our customers at no charge so they can benefit from our service b. Our customers already pay for phone service and broadband internet, so we don’t think a $75 charge for a phone is very sensitive to our customers, many of whom are older and on fixed incomes c. The $75 cost is not functionally equivalent. When we sign up for cell phone service, we often get a free phone. You can go to Walmart and buy a phone for $10-20. To charge $75 is exhorbitant and can be viewed as a “tax” on our customers d. Other captioning providers are not being forced to charge customers $75 as their phones are covered by state programs which sets up an unfair competitive advantage on their behalf e. Our customers often have a need for multiple phones as they do not want to be racing from upstairs to downstairs to answer their captioning phone. A customer may have to pay $150, $225, even possibly more to ensure they have captioning service on the phone they are using 2) The FCC would force existing customers to provide certification of hearing loss from a hearing care professional to continue using our phone a. This again will put an additional cost of money and time on our customers as they need to schedule an appointment and get certification b. This will cause additional confusion and frustration for our customers 3) The FCC rule for captioning to be set to “OFF” a. We’ve seen the impact this has had on customers and our business already b. Many customers have complained to the FCC already that they live alone, therefore they know that they need the captioning on c. Our customers have difficulty remembering things and the additional need to activate captioning causes frustration
