Help!!! Advice needed. We have a 4 yr old chocolate labrador, Sasha, a 5 year old big black dog, Sam and 2 months ago rescued a stray/abandoned dog, Sandy. The dogs live outside and have all been sterilised and have a lot of land in which to run around in and play. Sasha, the Lab, was always top dog and she and Sam were the best of pals. The new dog is a sweet natured young dog who is very submissive and eager to please. She has made friends with Sam, and Sasha is not unfriendly towards her, but neither did she welcome her with open paws! She seems to have suddenly grown up however, and no longer plays with her mate Sam. Sasha has always dug her way under the fence on the odd occasion, but theres always been a reason for it, e.g. sheep in the field next door, a rabbit or hedgehog, another dog etc. She could go months and months without escaping. However, we can no longer stop Sasha from escaping. We used to be able to go out without a thought but we now have to tie her on a leash. The minute she is off and we are not looking, (we can be in the house or just somewhere else outside), she will dig her way out and shes gone. She does always come back or we find her close by and bring her back, but we are worried about what can/will happen to her one day. Plus, we just dont understand why she is doing it??? She has a nice life, shes loved to bits and has playmates on tap. Now, we are having to keep her on a leash all the time. Do you think it is really down to the change in the pack set up? Is she that unhappy? How can we stop her? We are at our wits end :(
