Help! Anyone with experience with kennel cough or upper respiratory infections? NO HORROR STORIES, PLEASE! My Duke has fought off lung cancer, survived amazingly thru surgery and chemo. I know he may die, I do not need to be reminded. This post is an attempt to get advice, not scare me into irreversible depression. He has been to the vet about this a few times. We go again Friday for a recheck. I need and want to be aggressive. My vet already seems like she is in above her head as she advised me to go back to the oncologist. The oncologist tells me the lung cancer is gone and this is a case for a regular vet, he will not see us for this. So, our regular vet has agreed to treat him but I want to make certain she is doing all she can. He is on antibiotics and cough medicine. He seemed to be getting better, and almost sounded like he was getting over it. Then, over a day or 2 it changed and seemed to settled in his chest....he now sounds different. Before he was horse but didnt seem congested. Now he sounds congested to me. And I am panicked. He is eating well and pesky as usual, so his spirits are ok considering. But we cannot let this grab hold! Is there any other treatment I should be asking for? We are at the 2 week mark. Should we ask to change to a stronger antibiotic? Should we be getting steroids? An inhaler or something? Steam baths? Anything? And again, please no horror stories. If you dont have experience with treating it or only have sad stories to share, please dont. I have not mentioned this to the group because I cannot afford the upset as this has taken its toll on me. Its because I am so worried we are going in the wrong direction that I am now reaching out for suggestions. Thank you
