Help feed UCF students in need: barofhope The University of Central Florida is the Country’s second largest university with close to 60,000 students. Food insecurity and malnutrition are real concerns for a large portion of the student population. The UCF food pantry called Knights Helping Knights Pantry had approximately 1,200 visits in the month of September alone. This problem for college students seems to be spreading and the need for assistance growing. A recent article in the Journal of Nutrition Education and Behavior found that 59% of students at one university were food insecure at some point in the last school year, a figure that is approximately 4 times larger than that of an America household. Please help us, a local group of UCF employees and alumni, end this struggle for them by placing a whole food, health bar in their hands. What is a Hope Bar? The Hope bar is the Standardized whole food nutrition bar. It contains the 46 ingredients the World Health Organization deems necessary to sustain life. It is probably one of the healthiest things you could ever eat. We chose this health bar not only for its nutritional value, but also for its portability; that students can eat this on the go, even if they are staying on a friends couch or unfortunately living in their car. Our goal is to provide our UCF students with 10,000 boxes so that every student, especially around the holidays, when the school and pantry will be closed, will have the nutrition they need to succeed and that the concept of food insecurity will be eradicated from our UCF campus.
