#Help4Syria: Donate to Jusoor jusoorsyria What is Jusoor doing for the Syrian Crisis? 1) Refugee children education centers and tent schools in Lebanon Jusoor’s project aims to provide basic education to Syrian refugee children in Lebanon through its two centers, one in Beirut and the other recently launched in Bekaa, and its tent school project housed within the Syrian refugee communities of Bekaa. The primary objective is to enroll refugee children in formal schooling rather than Jusoor providing formal education. They define formal education either as enrollment in the Lebanese public school system or in private schools in Lebanon. Jusoor’s refugee education program provides three areas of support to achieve the overall objective of providing basic education to Syrian children and helping enroll them in formal education: Through its Lebanon based centers that help refugee children, Jusoor aims to help 800 students in it’s centers and 2,000 students in the decentralized tents. Jusoor aims to bring joy and happiness to the 2,800 children enrolled it its programs by end of 2014 and improve their educational attainment and enrolling over 20% of these kids into formal Lebanese education systems. All the current teachers and educators in the Beirut center are volunteers, as for the Bekaa center they have hired teachers from within the refugee community with a focus on young women. 2) University Scholarship Programs Jusoor helps Syrian students looking to complete their studies abroad attain academic scholarships at top universities across the US, Europe and Middle East. Jusoor has built many partnerships to help it achieve its goals. In brief, the 2 main programs in which Jusoor has provided university education opportunities are through the Syria Consortium for Higher Education and through individual contributions that have specifically gone towards funding the education of a number of students. a- The Syria Consortium for Higher Education in Crisis: This program offers scholarships to Syrian students through more than 50 universities in the US, UK and the rest of Europe. This effort is a partnership between the Institute of International Education (IIE), Illinois Institute of Technology (IIT), EducationUSA. Kaplan Test Prep International, University of California, Davis Human Rights Initiative, Princess Basmah Bint Al Saud’s Global United Lanterns, and the Global Platform for Syrian Students, to assist more students in additional countries. There are more than 80 Syrian students enrolled at universities under the consortium of which the first 3 graduates celebrated their achievement this May 2014. Jusoor’s role involves: - Fund raising to help pay tuition fees and living expenses to students under the scholarships programs because most of the are partial scholarships - Reaching out to Syrian students in need of financial aid and advertising to them the available scholarship opportunities under the consortium, managing all communication with them and helping them communicate with the universities - Mentoring student though the application process and also after enrolling at university b- Donors and Universities Jusoor has also been fortunate to receive donations from individuals with requests to fund students in certain fields of study or under special guidelines. In this way Jusoor has been able to support more than 10 students to date that have been shortlisted and selected with the help of Jusoor. In addition, many universities have offered full scholarships to Syrian students through Jusoor relationships and connections. In that capacity, Jusoor has helped reach out to Syrian students and guide them through application processes to ensure they are qualified to receive the scholarships offered. How can you help?
