Helsinki Salsa Academy got the honor to study and visit one of the prestigious Havana based dance companies: Compañía JJ. Directed by maestro Johanes García whom have been said to be a remarkable dancer having appeared in all continents having performed at major festivals and prestigious theaters around the world, also with Conjunto Folklorico Nacional De Cuba before founding his own dance company (J.J.) in Havana, Cuba. In this short documentary style video you will get to see a glimpse of the first training (from the basic training section only) of the December training season after a short break from the companys training schedule on December 23rd, 2014. This training was said not to be representative of the entire company as many of their dancers were said to be still on a break, while some new dancers were being introduced to their training system, but will nevertheless give you a short peak to their training system. This training meeting consisted, a warm-up section of about 20 minutes, 40 minute section of technique corporal exercises, 40 minute section of Folkloric training (e.g. Elegua), 30 minute meeting with the director and 90 minute choreography training (not allowed to be filmed) to prepare for one of their functions (spectacles/shows) to be performed on December 27th. The training itself consisted total of 3 live percussionist, a vocalist, three different trainers/coaches, 1 - 2 assistants, with about 25 of the companys dancers present.
