Henrico County residents, vote YES in favor of the Meals Tax - TopicsExpress

Henrico County residents, vote YES in favor of the Meals Tax Referendum. Reason 1:Have you been in some our older schools lately. Reason 2: $. 04 on a dollar will be a huge benefit to the schools with minimal impact to those who dine in Henrico. If you need more reasons, please keep reading and please share. At the general election on Tuesday, November 5, Henrico voters will have the opportunity to authorize the Board to consider implementing a 4% tax on prepared foods and beverages. If passed, the meals tax would generate $18 million a year, with every dollar dedicated to supporting Henrico County Public Schools. The meals tax would enact a charge on prepared food and beverages, such as a meal in a county restaurant. Voters will decide whether to authorize the county to implement the meals tax. If the meals tax is implemented: Diners in Henrico restaurants would pay 4% more on meals — 4 cents on every dollar, $0.40 on every $10. 40% of the revenue from the meals tax would be paid by non-Henrico residents. The meals tax would generate an estimated $18 million for the county each year. The millions generated would go entirely to Henrico County Public Schools. An increase in real estate taxes or deep cuts to the public schools budget would be avoided.
