Henrik William Bockelie of Bremerton On 16/Oct/ 2014 Henrik William Bockelie left behind a long, happy and meaningful life lived among the people of his community. It was the culmination of 87 years, in a room full of family, autumn light and the scent of douglas fir bows and roses, which began on 1/Dec/1926 in the then-scandinavian enclave of Ballard, Wa. A lively childhood included extended family and friends, his kid brother Norman, and his devoted working class Norwegian immigrant parents Trygve and Dagny, who eventually moved them to Bremerton. He attended Bremerton High School, went to sea in the Merchant Marine and Navy, became a union carpenter, and met and in 1953 married his beloved wife, Bremerton native Alma Aksdal. They had three children, Ingrid, Hap and Stene. Henrik and Alma founded, owned and managed Bockelie Builders Inc. They belonged to Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church, and enjoyed membership in the local Son’s of Norway Lodge. Henrik, who is survived by his wife of 61 years, his children, and his grand- and great grandchildren, lived a life of commitment to the cause of global peace, economic justice, and his most oft –quoted old Norwegian adage, “Hver dag er en gave… every day is a gift.” A memorial service for Henrik will be held at Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church, 11th & Veneta, Bremerton on Saturday, November 15th, at 11:00 am. In Lieu of flowers memorial gifts may be sent to Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church, 1015 Veneta, Bremerton, WA. 98337 or IFCO Pastors For Peace, 418 – W. 145th St., New York, NY. 10031
