Here are some new pictures I took of Reedy Creek Baptist Church 10/6/2014. Just wanted people to see our pretty Church. Here are some old Minutes and History of Reedy Creek Church. Just a little information. Reedy Creek Church is located about six miles from Wrens in the corner of Jefferson, Warren, and McDuffie Counties. This Church was established in 1814, as an arm of Little Brier Creek Church, with privilege of receiving and baptizing members. The meetings held prior to the organization were conducted principally by Reverends E. Perryman and Jacob Merchant. Reedy Creek Church was constituted under a bush Arbor on the north side of Reedy Creek by Rev. Elisha Perryman. When Rev. Perryman was a member of the Sweet Water Church, he was accustomed to preach in the more destitute communities. As results of his labors Reedy Creek was the constituted. Its organization as an independent body dates from April 17, 1817. The ministers who officiated at its constitution were, Rev. Winder Hillman, James Grenade and Jacob Merchant. The original house was built of logs, on land which was deeded by David Hobbs dated May 2, 1812, recorded in Warren County, dated May 2, 1812, for the sole purpose of erecting a meeting house. Deed being received by James Neal, then clerk of said county August 20, 1814... (References given at a later date give Howard Hobbs as the donor, deed being given the name of David.) Daniel Connell, George Stapleton, John Kent and Daniel McNeil, as trustees, and consisted of five acres more or less. After ten years the log building was destroyed by fire set by an enemy said to be John Willoughby, who received $25.00 to do the job. The original church records were destroyed in the fire. The names of the original members cannot now be ascertained: but, among the leading ones were George Stapleton and wife Isaac Stapleton and wife May Connell. The site of the second church was on the south side of Reedy Creek. The land, on which the second church stood, consisted of fifteen acres, which was deeded by Willis Howard to the trustees James Williams, James Anderson, Jonathan Huff, Henry Peebles, Theo Stapleton and Samuel Pool. A story told by Bruce Ivey, as he heard it from Wm. Thompson and his brother S. A. H. Thompson and J. Andrew Hobbs, a frame house was erected by Moses Thompson, with timber given to build the church. When this church was dismantled it was bought and moved by Jim W. Hobbs. The land was again surveyed in 1905 and had only thirteen acres. The next survey showed only nine acres. The present church was erected in 1905, dedicated 1906. If you have any questions please email or call me Frank McCarthy at 706-466-0093 or email me at mccarthyf84@yahoo Thank you for your time.
