Here are some of the incidents Hamilton Police responded to over the Victoria Day weekend: Stabbing On May 19th, 2014 at approximately 7:50 p.m., Hamilton Police responded to a disturbance call on Wilson Street. Once on scene officers located a man who had suffered stab wounds. The man refused medical attention but was made to go to hospital for his injuries. The 22-year-old went to hospital with non-life threatening injuries. The victim did not wish to cooperate with police and there is no suspect information at this time. The Hamilton Police Division One Detectives continues to investigate. Theft On May 19th, 2014 at approximately 5:15 p.m., Hamilton Police responded a theft in the area of Barton Street East and Birch Avenue. Investigation revealed that a male suspect had stolen another man’s wallet and run from the area. The victim chased the suspect and confronted him. The suspect then pulled out a can of dog repellent and sprayed the victim’s face with it. The suspect ran once again and again was pursued by the victim. When the victim caught up with the suspect he took him to the ground and held him until police responded. The suspect was arrested without incident and held for a bail hearing. The suspect was also found to be in possession of an amount of crack cocaine. Charged: Dawson Hillier, 39 yrs of No fixed address Charges: Theft Under Assault with a Weapon Possession of a Controlled Substance Breach Probation x 2 Impaired Driving On May 17th, 2014 at approximately 1:00 a.m., Hamilton Police were conducting RIDE Lanes in the area of Garth Street and Becket Drive when a car approached the lanes making no indication of slowing down. The driver began swerving over the road and continued through the officers compelling officers to jump out of the way. Officers stopped the vehicle a short distance away and the driver showed signs of impairment. The driver was arrested and taken to the police station for a breathalyzer test. He blew over the legal limit. The 29-year-old Hamilton man was released on a Promise to Appear with a charge of Impaired and Over 80 mg. ***Six Impaired Incidents*** Break and Enter suspect arrested On May 17th, 2014 at approximately 2:00 a.m., Hamilton Police were dispatched to a break and enter in progress at a residence on East 42nd Street. Upon arrival officers learned that the homeowner was not home, but observed a suspect inside. The officers directed the suspect to exit the home but he did not comply. A K9 officer attended and when warning barks were issued the suspect swiftly exited the home. The suspect was arrested without incident. Charged: Michael CIEPLUCHA, 35 yrs of Hamilton Charges: Break and Enter Variety Store Robbery On May 18th, 2014 two women were preparing to close Salvage variety when an unknown male entered the store. The unknown male had his face covered and one of the women immediately went to the bathroom to call the police. The suspect armed with a knife approached the other woman working at the counter and demanded money. The woman refused and ran out of the store. The suspect followed a short time after he was unable to open the register himself. He was last seen fleeing northbound from York Blvd. The victims did not sustain any injuries. The suspect is described as a thin white male. The Hamilton Police BEAR Unit continues to investigate. Gas Leak On May 19th, 2014 at approximately 1:20 p.m., Hamilton Police responded to Sterling Street to assist the Hamilton Fire Dept with a natural gas leak. A gas line was struck as a result of digging on the property. Houses in the area were instructed to keep their windows closed for a short period of time until the leak could be fixed. Motorcycle Collision On May 16th, 2014 at approximately 10:50 a.m., a motorcycle was traveling west bound on Queenstion Road when it was struck by another vehicle. The driver of the motorcycle was struck when the vehicle exited a parking lot on the south side of Queenston Road and proceeded through two lanes of traffic directly into the path of the motorcycle. The driver of the motorcycle was thrown from the bike at and sustained minor injuries. The driver of the vehicle has been charged with Careless Driving.
