Here are the rules: list 10 books in your status that have stayed with you in some way. Dont take more than a few minutes and do not think too hard. They do not have to be the right books or great works of literature, just ones that have affected you in some way. Tag 10 friends, including me, so I can see your list. So, in no particular order: 1. The Lathe of Heaven by Ursula K. Le Guin -- The dreams of one man control what happens to mankind. 2. Lord of the Rings Trilogy by J.R.R. Tolkein -- One Ring to rule them all, One Ring to find them, One Ring to bring them all and in the darkness bind them. 3. Woman in White by Wilkie Collins -- Thought to be the 1st thriller ever written, and a real classic. Loved this book. 4. Great Expectations by Charles Dickens -- If you havent been forced to read this book, you might actually enjoy it. I love 19th century English lit...probably the only true literature I enjoy. 5. Shogun by James Clavell -- Picked this up in the early 80s. Fantastic historical fiction. I learned alot about Japanese history through this and the other titles in the series. 6. Hawaii by James Michener -- and anything by Michener. Borrowed this from my Mom in junior high school, and literally couldnt put it down. I stayed in my room for two days ploughing through this book. Moved onto his other titles after that. Such a descriptive writer; some would say pedantic. 7. Cane River by Lalita Tademy -- Historical fictional account of multiple generations of African American women in one family, beginning with their years in bondage. Lots of facts rolled in with the fiction. A true family history. 8. Wheel of Time by Robert Jordan (Brandon Sanderson @ the conclusion) -- “The Wheel of Time turns, and Ages come and pass, leaving memories that become legend. Legend fades to myth, and even myth is long forgotten when the Age that gave it birth comes again.” 9. Foundation trilogy by Isaac Asimov -- Can the best of mankind be saved? Fight or die.... 10. Mary, Called Magdalene by Margaret George -- I learned so much about Christianity through this book. Ms. George really does her research and weaves the history into a beautiful novel. I have since read her other titles about Elizabeth I, Cleopatra, Helen of Troy. All excellent!! BTW, Im sneaking another book in here because I read The Red Tent by Anita Diamant concurrently. Lots of religion and tradition that summer.
