Here is a klip of my dear Minja on Sarajevo TV leading the group that gave her the idea for the Yugotones, which turned into our band Zabe i Babe. This was filmed just about a year before the war, and our band started just a few months after the fighting started- the idea being to show something positive from the region at a time when the US news was filled with nothing but negative reports, and to play every imaginable ex-Yugo music- village singing from the mountain Bjelasnica, rock (Bjelo Dugme) over the top pop/folk (nova komponova nardodna muzika), punk rock ( Kud Idijoti, Pankrti), Roma songs...She says in the intro that this one is from Flory Jagoda- one of the great keepers of Sephardic music in Bosnia. Its a Sukkot song- the women in the house prepare baklava and coffee (the best!) and there are 15 kinds of fruit and the song is to welcome the guests. Thanks to Tanja Pejovic for the link!!
