Here is a meditation for today from Pastor Karen: Good morning! My oldest son, the one in the Air Force, posted a cartoon on my FB site today of a blonde woman with a harassed expression on her face, ironing a blouse, talking on the phone, breastfeeding an infant, an alarm clock going off and a dog with its leash wrapped around her leg. Maybe you saw it. The caption underneath is a long list of helpful household tips, such as using a meat baster to make perfect pancakes and stuffing a miniature marshmallow at the bottom of an ice cream cone to prevent drips. His note was, “I like the part about pancakes I miss those.” Yeah, I remember the pancakes. I used to make them for him and his brothers before they caught the bus to school and I jumped in a car and went to work. They were the kind that came in a bottle—premeasured and premixed. Add water, shake and pour out onto a fry pan. We liked the blueberry ones the best. Yep, those were the days. When life was simpler. LOL Then I asked myself, do I still look like that?? Well, not the breastfeeding part. And I gave up ironing long ago. Who am I kidding? I never did iron. This very same son saw an ironing board in the church nursery when he was a tot. I watched through the window as he picked up the iron and hollered out to his teacher, “What’s this??!!” But yesterday, if he had seen me running around, looking for things I thought I had lost, juggling too many things and feeling pulled in many different directions, I probably had that same expression on my face. And I thought, what’s wrong with this picture? This isn’t what God wants me for me. He wants me to be still, and think on Him. Think of what is lovely and pure. He wouldn’t want me to be trying so hard to be all things to all people – when I all need to be is His child, loving, serving, and enjoying Him. How has your day been going so far? Have you been rushing around, worrying that you are late? Juggling too many things? Losing your peace? Don’t look like me. Be still and know that He is your Lord. He cradles you and your life in His capable, loving hands. He isn’t through with us, yet; we have more to learn. But He has a wonderful plan for our lives. We just need to trust in Him and His good plan for us. We just have to walk in faith that He will lead us in His good plan. Don’t worry so much about doing the right thing or not knowing the right thing to do. Let Him lead you in His perfect will. Will you take a moment to pray with me, friend? Loving God, thank you for the gift of this day and the gift of our lives. May we be forever grateful for your gifts, especially the gift of your Son who gave His life that we may be saved through belief on Him. Forgive us when we plan too much, juggle too much, try to be all things to all people, when we only need to be one thing—your child – loving, serving, and enjoying you. Put our chaotic lives and thoughts in order. Lead us in your will. Bring us your peace. May we share the love of Christ and Your joy to all we encounter today. In your Son’s name we pray. Amen. Blessings in Christ, Pastor Karen
