Here is a message for our athletes: Trust the intent! Sure - TopicsExpress

Here is a message for our athletes: Trust the intent! Sure in a text book world of motivation we would all love to hear glowing complements and golden reviews about our work and effort. Athletes for sure need this but expecting it to come in a continuous stream from your coaches, parents or teachers is unrealistic. We do not live in a textbook world. In the heat of the moment passionate people may simply cut to the chase with straight forward feedback without the lace and trim. Sometimes the feedback may seem harsh, direct, frank and even critical. Those who are used to their feedback being served with sugar and honey may have to simply trust the intent. Trust the intent! Most would agree that coaches, parents and teachers have the best well intended interests of their students in mind when they deliver their lessons. Trust the intent of the feedback. Know that the ultimate goal is to teach and better your performances (as a student, an athlete or as an individual.) Know that although the delivery at times may not be quite as pleasant as you would prefer, the intent shows they care. Sunshine and roses are nice, but so is progress in the real world. Trust the intent.
