Here is a news release regarding the outages: Avista Crews Responding to Power Outages Sustained from Regional Storm. Approximately 33,000 customers are without electrical service at 10:30 p.m. Spokane, Wash., July 23, 2014: Storms that blew through Eastern Washington and Northern Idaho this afternoon caused widespread damage to Avista’s electrical system. At the height of the outage, nearly 40,000 Avista customers were without power. Avista crews continue to assess the damage to its system. Preliminary assessment indicates damage to transmission and distribution poles and lines, as well as to substations. Avista crews from areas not affected by the storm are relocating to assist crews in areas hardest hit. Crews will continue to work around the clock until power is restored to all customers. Customers can view outage status on Avista’s website at avistautilities, but please note that crews are still assessing the damage and the estimated restoration times on our website may not be accurate at this time. As more information becomes available the restoration times will be updated. The outage status is accurate. When calling to report outages customers may experience longer hold times because of call volume. Customers can also report outages online at avistautilities and through their mobile device. Avista appreciates our customers’ patience through this event. Avista crews are working as quickly and safely as possible. Safety First Stay away from downed power lines. Never touch or attempt to remove fallen limbs from downed or sagging power lines. Treat all power lines as if they are energized or are carrying electrical current. Remember to call Avista immediately at (800) 227-9187 to report the location of the downed power line.
