Here is a preview from my book about my time in Calgary wrestling - TopicsExpress

Here is a preview from my book about my time in Calgary wrestling in Stu Harts Stampede Wrestling. The Harts were all tough and surrounded themselves with tough guys. One thing about being in the Stampede territory in the winter was it was cold. I mean very cold. It was so cold you did not do much out side other than run to the indoors. The only times you went out side was to get in the van to make a town it seemed. Being captive for days at a time inside would make you bored. Some would go stir crazy. The trips were long on ice covered roads with several wrestlers piled on top of of each other in the van. Most of us lived together in groups. So you were around each other all the time. Home, van, dressing room, ring, every where you went was other wrestlers. When you take a group of competitive, bored, and tough men who are stuck together hour after hour day after day something has to give. It was not uncommon to be riding in the van and hear someone say in a loud voice “PULL THIS VAN OVER!”. The van would pull over and two of the boys would go out and fight in the snow. Some time it was real issues, sometimes it was just because they were bored, and sometimes it was just The Hart Brothers being The Hart Brothers. The same thing went in the house I lived in. It was nothing for the furniture to be moved and two of the boys to have an amateur wrestling match right there in the living room floor. Most of the boys in Calgary including the refs could handle themselves. Me I had a very limited amateur skills at the time. I grew up on The Sheik with blood and fire. I wrestled in Tennessee where it was punch, kick, highspot, big bump, grab a hold do it again. So you can imagine what went through my mind when John Foley said to me one night get on the floor we are going to see what kind of wrestling you know. I about had a heart attack. Im a kid whos wrestling back ground was doing what I saw on TV to my brothers in a an old Log Cabin. Len Denton who was wrestling in the area at the time had given me the nick name “The Baby Bull” because of my build. So the boys are watching to see what Foley was going to do to me. He said get down here Baby Bull lets go. I could not get out of it. I could not be a chicken in front of anyone especially the boys. Its pride on the line and here I am down on my knees and hands waiting on Foley to get down and grab a hold of me to start wrestling. John was a smaller guy with a belly. He looked like a wino but he was somebody no one wanted to mess with. He is famous for straightening out fans who thought they could take him or who challenged the other wrestlers. Earlier I called him a shooter. Lets change that to he was a hooker. Meaning he could hook you in holds and break your bones. You were at his mercy. Youll have to read the book to find out what happened
