Here is an example letter for those who requested. On the actual letter, pictures and contact information would be included. My name is ….. I am a resident of Ohio. Myself and two other individuals have formed an organization, Ohio Families CANN, which we are in the process of incorporating. The focus of our organization is to educate the legislature and the public on the Endocannabinoid System and the importance of whole plant legalization for medicinal purposes. Reid’s life changed on Sept. 12, 2012 when he had his first seizure. That was the beginning of our nightmare that has yet to end. Our previously healthy child declined over the next three months and ended up in a status seizure on Dec. 18, 2012 which resulted in him being placed in a pentobarbital coma for 17 days, spending 7 weeks total in Nationwide Children’s Hospital. The doctors have tried 10 different medications and combinations of them, IVIG, plasmapheresis, pulse steroid therapy, bilateral invasive craniotomy, and multiple brain surgeries. We have sought out the top epilepsy experts in the world, travelling to NYU to see Dr. Orrin Devinsky and his team. Reid’s diagnoses include ADEM (Acute Disseminated Encephalomyelitis), bilateral MTS (Mesial Temporal Sclerosis) and intractable epilepsy and he is currently on 3 anti-seizure meds, 2 rescue medications, monthly IV steroids, as well as a mood stabilizer medication due to the side effects of one of his anti-seizure meds. Reid’s conditions and his pharmaceuticals impact his life in a myriad of ways, including but not limited to: developmental delays, sensory processing issues, behavioral problems, social and emotional deficits, and attention deficits/impulse control problems. Additionally, Reid’s medications also carry with them side effects such as permanent peripheral vision loss, psychosis, insomnia, anxiety, and many, many more. Medical cannabis could be the answer for Reid where all else has failed. The anecdotal evidence from Colorado, California, and Washington overwhelmingly support the efficacy of medical cannabis as a treatment for seizures. We are pursuing whole plant legalization. CBD-only is effective for some, but information suggests that some percentages of THC are vital to the effectiveness of this as a treatment. Both THC and CBD are vital to restore the effective functioning of our Endocannabinoid System. All of our neurologists agree that he would be a good candidate to try this alternative treatment. Medical marijuana is legalized in 23 states currently. I don’t believe I should have to move to another state, leaving family and friends, to become a “refugee” in our country in this day and age. With each seizure I lose a little more of my son. Please help Reid and the countless other children in Ohio gain legal access to medical cannabis.
