Here is an interesting quote for those who indulge in stereotypes: You may fight in the cause of GOD against those who attack you, but do not aggress. GOD does not love the aggressors. - Holy Quran[2:190] In other words, Islam does NOT encourage Muslims to behave aggressively or initiate acts of terrorism or war. However, if a Muslim is attacked he/she may fight in the name of Allah. Much like American soldiers calling out to God for assistance in time of need. Lastly, the verse clearly states God does not love the aggressors. I firmly believe God would be angry with anyone creating senseless violence and death for political reasons. There are far too many people who affiliate the actions of terrorist groups such as Al-Quada and the Taliban with anyone who appears to be Muslim, or practices the religion of Islam. Google defines stereotype as, a widely held but fixed and oversimplified image or idea of a particular type of person or thing. Some popular stereotypes most of us are familiar with are; 1. Black: law breakers, soul food, gangsta theme, only listen to rap, disrespect all females, poor, can dance, great at sports, The women are all loud and the men, are all well-endowed. 2. White: Trailer trash, rednecks, Racist, Scared, Not athletic, Smell funny, Serial killers, suicidal, Can’t discipline their kids, rule the world 3. Hispanic: steal all the jobs, always drive cars packed beyond legal limits, illegal immigrants, thieves, Greasy hair, Spicy food, Too many kids, gang members, speak little to no English, a taco accompanies almost every meal 4. Asian: All Asian-Americans Can’t Play Sports but Are Martial Artists, Don’t Know How to Speak English, Can’t Drive, mainly eat rice, most Asians are Chinese Now, absorb all the ridiculous stereotypes your race(s) fall under. If these stupid insecurities of society one day became truths to live by; I would be the reason a new group was created! I have broke the law and I am loud as all outdoors, therefore I am Black. I cant run, dribble, pass, or catch; I must be White! I always have too many people in my car, love tacos, and I have six kids......uhh ohh; my secret is out.....Im a heat packing, chihuahua toting Loca! Dont let me forget I have got to be Chinese or something because rice is usually on the menu and I learned a chop or two from all those Bruce Lee films I watch! So you see, we have all been victims of societys stupidity a time or two. Friends and Family...we have to rise above the ignorance of our ancestors. People should be viewed as individuals-not a race, religion, or affiliation. The only way change will happen is not by talking, but acting! It only takes one person with an opinion, idea, or custom to change an entire nation. The influence one person can hold over others is unbelievably compelling and enthralling in both positive and negative ways. We owe it to each other to move forward and live as God intended; respectfully and peacefully. Hopefully the next time we encounter an idiot with a ridiculous way of thinking -our new found insight will gracefully and accurately school that fool!
