Here is an interesting sequence of images from earlier today. There is no doubt that spring is in the air in our back yard! There is so much courting and showing off by the males...it is crazy! I have witnessed many mating rituals, but, today I actually managed to get a few photos as one of the males cornered a female in our bougainvillea! I saw him go after her at least 3 different times! Theres no way I can describe his actions...but, he was flying back & forth very, very fast...making a buzzing sound as he zipped back and forth. It was very hard to focus on him, and I couldnt even see her from across the yard (using a big zoom lens) but, you can see her crouching down inside the plant in some of the pictures! I didnt see any contact between them in the pictures, but, Im sure at some point today he probably became a daddy! Im just hoping that she chooses to build her nest there where the courtship happened! Ill be watching for babies!!! Oh...as soon as he took off, she came right out of hiding! You can see her in the last picture!
