Here is something I have felt inspired to share this week:) My goals/methods to becoming a great riding instructor: 1. To be able to meet each student at their own level whether it be advanced or beginner 2. To be able to explain complicated subjects simply (as well as explain simple subjects simply!) 3. This connects to the previous, in that I aim to always be able to use language found in the equestrian industry and pass on this skill to students. 4. Continue my own training and keep working towards higher levels so that I may be relevant in experience with my students. 5. Never become narrow minded enough to A. think I know everything and B. be able to think outside the box and be creative in solving problems with both horse and rider. With a sport that has two athletes like ours does, there is never one simple solution that fits every horse and rider combo. 6. Set goals for each student that can be followed. This can be competition orientated or not! 7. Have patience and be able to give the time necessary to each and every student 8. Maintain the highest standard of ethics with horses, with business, with people. 9. Teaching students as well as learning from them. 10. Keep finding ways to keep lessons fun! It is obvious that a person and horse that enjoy each other will meet their goals sooner. 11. Create riders that problem solve and trouble shoot an issue with or without me being there. Rather than students listening to me and doing exactly as I say at every given moment, I want to set a goal that each student can join in on the conversation and fix an issue, in that way I become more similar to a guide then a dictator type instructor.
