Here is the noda review for hello Dolly KAOS Musical Theatre Company : Hello Dolly! Director : Kate Fish; Musical Director : John Mabon; Choreographer : Marie McCullough I wasn’t wrong in expecting a colourful, beautifully costumed and lively opening from KAOS, introducing Lorraine Kemp as the meddling but loveable Dolly Levi. This huge role was handled with expertise, achieving every bit of scripted comedy and she soared through all the vocal challenges with ease. Her character showed great passion throughout, especially in ‘Before The Parade Passes By’, a real showstopper, ‘Hello Dolly’ and ‘So Long Dearie’. Horace Vandergelder was suitably grumpy in the shoes of Murray Potts, who didn’t miss a beat when trying to avoid the advances of Dolly and in leading the men in ‘It Takes A Woman’. The rebellious Cornelius Hackl (Ben Campbell) and Barnaby Tucker (Alan Thomson) were a strong duo, full of fun and adventure. Teamed up with Irene Molloy(Sarah Anderson) and Minnie Fay(Yvonne Mitchell), on escaping from the hilarious ‘hat shop shenanigans, they joined together with an uplifting ‘Elegance’. Irene’s solo, ‘Ribbons Down My Back’ suited Sarah’s voice perfectly and Minnie Fay’s characterisation was brilliantly expressive, quirky and comical. All the cast of Harmonia Gardens had to be commended for the comedy capers that ensued, including three energetic dancing waitresses in the gallop. The courtroom scene is often renowned for the lovely song, ‘It Only Takes a Moment’, and this production was no exception. Overall the use of the promenade catwalk staging around the orchestra pit worked very well throughout, the beautifully draped Harmonia Gardens was simple but so effective and even some of the set included a home-made rolling tram. Congratulations and Well Done Everyone! Thankyou very much for your wonderful hospitality. Noda rep Debbie Lyons
